“The Community Patent and SME policy are two of the issues you will vote on today:  On patents, without a Community patent, European businesses face higher costs to protect new innovations in their home market than the US or Japan. We urgently need a patent system which will allow European companies reap the benefits of their investments in research and development. (…) I assure you that the messages you deliver will be heard by policy makers here in Brussels.
